Carlos Carreiro

José Manuel Tavares Rebelo is a member of the House of the Azores of the North, a past president and one of the architects of the World Council of Houses of the Azores.

He was born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, in 1943. He is a retired Associate Professor ofthe Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. In 1976, heformedtheGroup Puzzle with Graça Morais, Jaime Silva, Dario Alves, Albuquerque Mendes, Fernando Pinto Coelho, Pedro Rocha, João Dixoand Armando Azevedo. In 1973, he held his first solo exhibition at the Zen Gallery, Porto, which wasfollowed by another 68 solo exhibitions.

He has participated in over 300 collective exhibitions in Portugal and abroad:

2010, “Grupo Puzzle = Pintura Individual” [“Puzzle Group = Individual Painting”] – Anthology(1976 – 1981), CAE, Figueira da Foz;

2009, “Anos 70 atravessarfronteiras” [“70s Crossing Borders”] (part of Puzzle Group), CAM, F.C. Gulbenkian.

He was the author of the triptych “HomenagemaosAçores”[“Homage to the Azores”]that could be seen at the CAN, 1997.

He is the author of the panels in the chamber of the Azores Legislative Assembly, as well asof the composition of the respective tapestry.

He is the author of the panel of the Horta Hospital.

He is the author of several works of art for other public buildings of the Azores.
